In front of the mirror
How do I know my face shape?
Pull your hair back, stand in front of a mirror and compare these four measurements. You can trace the outline on the reflection with a dry-erase marker.
- 1 · Forehead. The width from one side of your forehead to the other.
- 2 · Cheekbones. The widest part of your face, just below your eyes.
- 3 · Jaw. From the corner of your jaw to your chin, and whether it’s soft or defined.
- 4 · Length. From your hairline to the tip of your chin.
How to read them: length and width almost equal → round or square (depending on the jaw). Longer than wide → oval or oblong. Wide forehead and narrow chin → heart.
Guide by face shape
Which glasses suit your face.
The golden rule is contrast: angular frames for soft faces and curves for angular faces. It’s a guide, not a rule: the best pair is the one that feels like you.
-
Glasses for a round face
Your face is almost as wide as it is long, with soft features. Frames with defined angles add structure and make it look longer.
-
Glasses for an oval face
Your face is balanced and slightly longer than it is wide. Almost any shape suits you: pick a frame as wide as the widest part of your face.
-
Glasses for a heart-shaped face
Your forehead is wide and your chin narrow. Light frames or fine lines balance the upper part of your face.
-
Glasses for an oblong face
Your face is clearly longer than it is wide. Frames with height and presence visually shorten the face and add balance.
-
Glasses for a square face
Your forehead and jaw are strong and of similar width. Curves and cat-eye shapes soften the angles.

The right size
How to choose your frame size.
Besides the shape, size defines comfort. Measurements are in millimeters, on the frame’s page or printed on the temple, like 52□18-140.
- Compare them with a pair that fits you well. A 2 to 3 mm difference in lens width is barely noticeable.
- If glasses pinch at the sides, look for a wider total width.
- If they slide down, choose light TR90 frames or adjustable nose pads, like Livia.
- Your eyes should sit near the center of each lens.
